Inquisitorial Guard?

As many of you who are regular readers will know, I'm currently involved in a campaign for GW's specialist game, Inquisitor. It's a cross between a RPG and a skirmish wargame, and we've been having a lot of fun with it. I've been reading some of the background material, and there's a lot of really cool stuff in there, and it's got me a little inspired right now (how long it lasts, I don't know).

On the 40K side of things, I've fallen out with tournament gaming. Now I know Games Workshop games are never going to be balanced, it seems these days that the game is worth nothing for it's own sake, and it's just a vehicle to sell models. The cost of maintaining a competitive tournament list has grown beyond my means, so I've decided to keep to casual, friendly games for now, and even then, I don't play every week any more, I'm playing more Warmachine/HORDES as I'm enjoying it very much.

So you're probably thinking, is this guy ever going to get to the point, or is he just rambling Grampa Simpson style? Since I'm not building competitive lists right now, I can play more interesting army builds and focus on using models I like, so last Wednesday I broke out my Vostroyan Firstborn Imperial Guard army. I have a decent collection of these, but there was never a full range of options released for them (no Meltagun, Autocannon or Missile Launcher models in the range for a start) and it seems as they are metal and were not switched to Finecast, they are being phased out. I'd love to see plastic Vostroyans released with the next Imperial Guard Codex, but I don't see it happening. So before that happens, I've put in an order and should have enough figures to field the following.

Company Command Squad - Officer, 4 Plasma Guns.

Veteran Squad - 3 Plasma Guns

Veteran Squad - 3 Plasma Guns

Veteran Squad - 3 Meltaguns

Platoon Command Squad - Officer, 4 Flamers
Infantry Squad - Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Infantry Squad - Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Infantry Squad - Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Infantry Squad - Flamer, Heavy Bolter
Heavy Weapons Squad - 3 Mortars
Heavy Weapons Squad - 3 Heavy Bolters
Heavy Weapons Squad - 3 Lascannons
Heavy Weapons Squad - 3 Lascannons
Conscript Squad (20)

I've also got plenty of Imperial Guard vehicles too, and those aren't OOP so I can always add more of those. And then, the Inquisition comes in. The background of the army will be that the Vostroyan 13th Imperial Guard regiment has been near-annihilated in battle, but has drawn the interest of an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor who has used his Inquisitorial mandate to permanently second the remaining Vostroyans to his service. I have lots of Kasrkin models to be Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, plus I can ally in the Inquisitor and his retinue from Codex : Grey Knights (and even some Grey Knights marines later on). It also stands to reason that the Inquisitor can commandeer other forces (Sanctioned/Primaris Psykers, Ogryns, Ratlings etc.). The only problem is that the Inquisitor should be the Warlord according to the fluff, but it's not allowed by the rules, but I'm sure my opponent's shouldn't mind bending that rule to give the game a little backstory.

I'll leave you with a couple of squads I've painted up previously to use as allies to my Blood Angels, a Company Command Squad and a Veteran squad.
