We're on the road to Gaelcon

Gaelcon is on in the D4 Hotel in Ballsbridge this weekend. I don't usually get to go since I normally have to work Bank Holiday weekends, but this year I'm able to go. There will be plenty of goings on, but I'm looking forward to a full three days of Gatormen fighting giant robots. Saturday and Sunday is a 50pt Steamroller, while on Monday the event is 35pt Who's the Boss?

The Defenders of Caspia Part II - Cygnar Warjack painting guide

Finished the Charger above this afternoon. I like the way the test colour scheme worked out. Want to know how I painted it?

The Defenders of Caspia Part I

I've almost finished painting all the available options for my Gator army, so I'm looking for another project. I had almost decided on the Retribution of Scyrah, but instead I went back to my old Cygnar army. I've decided to make a series out of it, so every month my goal will be to paint 20 points worth of models, as well as a warcaster.

Tales from NWG - Warmachine/HORDES

So I'll finish off my series on NWG with the event in which I actually took part, which was the Warmachine/HORDES tournament. It was a 35pt Steamroller held on Saturday and I brought the Snappy Coalition. Here are my two lists

Tales from NWG - Warhammer

Also at NWG - the Warhammer tournament. This was run as a 2000 point tournament with no composition restrictions, and Warhammer Forge was allowed. Despite the fears of most veteran players, this didn't result in the expected abundance of special characters or ridiculous army lists. There were lots of Warriors of Chaos armies with Nurgle Daemon Princes (for some reason......) but no sign of most of the expected 12 Throggs. While some of the highly placed armies had the usual cheese (Dwarfs with 7 war machines, Ogre Gutstar, 100+ Zombie block with 2 Terrorgheists, O&G chaff festival, White Lion BotWD deathstars, double Skullcrushers) there was no Skaven (who I believe are the most powerful army uncomped).

Tales from NWG - Warhammer 40,000

Also at NWG last week was the Warhammer 40,000 tournament. Darragh Cullen is the man responsible for this tournament. Darragh has run the 40K event at NWG for the past four years now. NWG was the first Irish tournament to allow Forge World rules and puts a heavy premium on painting (there was 100 points available for gaming and 50 for painting - although these are mostly based on the effort put in as opposed to pure technical skill. This has resulted in this year's event having some of the best painting and modelling I've ever seen.

Tales from NWG - Emerald Daemon 2013

Last weekend was the annual NWG tournament held in the Grand Hotel in Wicklow town. The event continues to go from strength to strength and expanded this year to include the first national painting competition, the Emerald Daemon award. There were trophies awarded in five categories - Single Model, Command Group (a squad or small group of models), Large Model, Diorama and Whiteshield (under 18).

I didn't manage to get names for all the entrants, pictures of all the models or even the names of all the winners, so photos of some of the entries below. I'll add a few comments from what I do know.
