An Adventure in the Iron Kingdoms

I've been a big fan of the Iron Kingdoms setting for a while now. I've read a lot of the background for it in various PP rulebooks and No Quarter for years and I picked up the Iron Kingdoms RPG rulebook when it was released just for reading as much as anything else. Now I've got the opportunity to play the system and see what it's like. Gerry Nolan is GMing a campaign and has invited me to take part, so I needed a character. The game doesn't support Gatorman characters unfortunately (so no Gatorman Bokor/Shaman for me) so I looked into my other faction. One thing I've always loved about Cygnar is Gun Mages, so I chose to play one of them, although rather than a Cygnaran Arcane Tempest Gun Mage, I'm playing a Llaelese exile instead. As my second career, I've gone for Investigator, as it fits his background and past, which can be seen below. Gerry has set his campaign in the recent past of the current storyline, our game begins in 588AR (the current storyline is about 608AR).

Alessandro di Pietro was born in Merywyn in 558AR, the fourth son of a retired Llaelese army Captain turned merchant. His Arcane talents noticeable from an early age, he was a rebellious teenager with a penchant for firearms, so at the age of 16 he was enrolled in the training academy of the Order of the Amethyst Rose by his father, in an attempt to instil some discipline into his son.
Alessandro surprised his instructors during training with the speed he picked up the arts of the Gun Mage and for his ability to get himself into trouble. He graduated and after two years of field postings with the Llaelese army, he was dishonourably discharged after an incident involving the daughter of a prominent Colonel. This however, was just a cover story as Alessandro was brought before Llael's spymaster and for the next several years, Alessandro served the Llaelese Secret Service, including some deep cover work amongst the Kayazy of the Khadoran city of Korsk. While on one of his missions, Alessandro made the acqaintance of the Cygnaran Baron Andrews.
Alessandro's work for the Llaelese Secret Service came to an end in 586AR when he became infatuated with the daughter of a prominent government minister. He evaded three attempts on his life over the next two months. His friends in the Llaelese secret service managed to smuggle him across the Cygnaran border. He made for Corvis, where he met up with his old friend Baron Andrews. He entered the service of the Baron, who hired him to look out for his business interests.
Just as Alessandro had begun to make a new life for himself, Baron Andrews was found dead at his Corvis mansion in mysterious circumstances. The Baron's eldest son and heir fired Alessandro. He returned to his lodgings, packed up his belongings and was about to leave, when there was a knock on his door.
